Arnold Air Society to Sponsor Pow/mia Flag Vigil Nov. 11

November 6, 1996

The Arnold Air Society, a service organization of the Baylor University ROTC, will sponsor a 24-hour flag vigil in honor of military prisoners of war (POWs) and those missing in action (MIA) beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Baylor flag pole in front of Pat Neff Hall.
The vigil is part of POW/MIA Awareness Week which is Nov. 11-15. Currently, there are 22,065 POWs and soldiers MIA, according to Michael Tomm, public affairs officer for the Baylor ROTC and the Arnold Air Society.
In honor of the week, a Baylor ROTC cadet will offer a prayer in honor of POW/MIAs during Chapel Forum at 10:00 am. Monday, Nov. 11, in Waco Hall. At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, the ROTC will conduct a warrior run, which is a silent run around the campus.
During the flag vigil, four cadets will rotate guarding the flag during one hour shifts. The vigil is a way of communicating support for POW/MIAs, their families and all people who have served their country, Tomm said.
"These individuals are lost, but not forgotten," he said.
