22 Baylor Law Students to Graduate Nov. 9

Twenty-two graduates of the Baylor University School of Law are scheduled to receive juris doctor degrees during commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
Keynote speaker will be Baylor law graduate Justice Priscilla Owen of the Texas Supreme Court. Justice Owen was elected to the Supreme Court in November 1994 and began her term on Jan. 1, 1995.
A native of Waco, she earned her bachelor of arts degree cum laude from Baylor in 1976 and her juris doctorate in 1977 as the top-ranking graduate. She received the highest score in the state on her Texas bar exam in 1978.
Before her election, Justice Owen was a partner in the Houston law firm of Andrews & Kurth, L.L.P., where she practiced commercial litigation for 17 years.
Justice Owen received the Baylor Young Lawyer of the Year Award last year and she also was honored during the 1995 Homecoming festivities when she received the Baylor Alumni Association's Outstanding Young Alumni Award.
Diplomas will be presented by Brad Toben, law school dean and the Governor Bill and Vara Faye Daniel Professor of Law, assisted by Leah W. Jackson, associate dean and associate professor of law.
The invocation will be given by Gerald R. Powell, the Abner V. McCall Professor of Evidence, and hooding the graduates will be Louis Muldrow, who serves as the Leon Jaworski Professor of Practice and Procedural Law, and Melissa A. Essary, professor of law.
After the ceremony, a reception for the graduates and their guests will be hosted by the Baylor Law Alumni Association in the White Beckham Room at the Student Center.
