Music School to Present Convocation Sept. 21

The talents of new faculty will be in the spotlight on when Baylor University's School of Music presents its opening convocation at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, in Roxy Grove Hall.
The event will feature Assistant Professor of Trombone David Jackson, Assistant Professor of Bassoon Kent Moore, Assistant Professor of Voice Robin Fisher, and Visiting Professor of Horn Peg Robinson.
Following greetings from Dr. Marvin L. Lamb, Dean of the School of Music, the musical portion of the program will open with "Samuel Chapter," a work dating from 1978 by the contemporary American composer, John Harbison. Soprano Christine Schadeberg, a former member of the Baylor faculty, will be joined by flutist Helen Ann Shanley, clarinetist Richard Shanley, violist Kathryn Steely, cellist Gary Hardie, pianist Brian Marks, and percussionist Larry Vanlandingham. Michael Haithcock will conduct the Harbison piece.
David Jackson will then take center-stage for a performance of Polish pianist/composer Sigismond Stojowski's "Fantasy" for trombone and piano. Kent Moore will play two pieces for bassoon and piano by the prolific Russian composer, Reinhold Glière-his "Impromptu" and "Humoresque." To conclude the program, Robin Fisher and Peg Robinson will present "Auf dem Strom," a song for the unusual combination of soprano, horn, and piano by Franz Schubert. Accompanying the Stojowski, Glière, and Schubert works will be Assistant Professor of Piano John Cozza.
