Baylor President Sloan to Speak Sept. 20 at Chapel-Forum

Baylor University President Robert B. Sloan Jr. will speak at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, in Chapel-Forum in Waco Hall. This is Sloan's first address in Chapel-Forum as university president.
Sloan was inaugurated Friday, Sept. 15, as the 12th president of Baylor after being elected by the Board of Regents on Feb. 24, 1995.
Sloan received a bachelor of arts degree, cum laude, from Baylor in 1970 and a master of divinity degree, magna cum laude, from Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, N.J., in 1973. He earned the Doktor der Theologie degree, insigni cum laude, from the University of Basel, Switzerland, in 1978.
He joined the faculty of Baylor's Department of Religion in 1983 after holding teaching positions at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1990 he became the first holder of The George W. Truett Chair in Evangelism, and in 1993 he was appointed founding dean of Baylor's George W. Truett Theological Seminary.
Active in church ministry for 15 years, Sloan has served as interim pastor to more than 20 churches. He has authored two books, "The Favorable Year of the Lord" and "Discovering Corinthians," and has contributed more than 50 articles and chapters to various books, journals and publications.
Sloan and his wife, Sue, also a Baylor graduate, have seven children: Charissa, 21; Bryan, 19; Eraina, 18; Michael, 16; Alathea, 14; Sophia, 11; and Paul, 8.
