A new book by Terry York, D.M.A., professor of Christian ministry and church music at Baylor’s Truett Seminary, focuses on Kurt Kaiser: Icon and Conscience of Contemporary Christian Music. Kaiser was a composer, arranger and modern church music pioneer, who received Baylor’s 2017 Pro Ecclesia Medal of Service.

The Washington Times: Most college students ignorant of American democracy, survey finds
Elesha J. Coffman, Ph.D., associate professor of history at Baylor, is quoted in this article about a new survey that links poor civics knowledge to disinterest, discontent and distrust among young voters. Coffman said she would rather help students grasp large trends than rote facts. “The how and the why of history matter more than bare facts without context,” she said.

Heather Hudson, Ed.D., LAT, ATC, clinical associate professor and director of Master of Athletic Training Program at Baylor, challenged faculty and staff at the Graduate School Research and Education Symposium to join forces to maximize resources such as basic training curricula in a time where resources are limited. The event was hosted by the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence Graduate School, of which Baylor is a partner university.

Baylor history professor Barry Hankins, Ph.D., who has long studied Southern Baptists, was interviewed for this article about turmoil at the SBC's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, which has increased calls to disband the denomination's public policy arm. However, some SBC pastors say it can and should be saved.

KCEN-TV (NBC/Waco):Baylor University hosting summer civic education camp
VIDEO: Nearly 80 rising middle school students attended Baylor’s nationally recognized iEngage Summer Civics Institute summer camp to learn about civic engagement and their role in the process. Co-founder Karon LeCompte, Ph.D., associate professor of curriculum and instruction, said, “It’s so important for us to be able to teach children at a young age to be adequately informed, to do research and understand statistics … it is so needed for our youth and future of democracy.”
KXXV-TV (ABC/Waco): The Baylor Line: The tradition, memories, and impact it has on local students
VIDEO: During summer orientation, incoming Baylor students are introduced to the long-standing tradition of running the Baylor Line at home football games. Dakota Farquhar-Caddell, associate director of student activities and the Robert Reid Director of the Baylor Chamber of Commerce, said, "The Baylor Line was founded back in the 70’s… [and] every new student who comes to Baylor is part of the Baylor Line… so cherish it, love it and take it in for all it's worth.”
