Medscape: Recruiting Nursing Students: New Approaches to Filling the Healthcare Gap
Baylor Nursing Dean Linda Plank, Ph.D., RN, NEA-BC, provided insight into the innovative strategies emerging from nursing schools to attract the next generation of nurses. Dean Plank spoke about Baylor’s accelerated online program that allows students to complete their clinical hours at sites close to their homes, as well as the challenges all nursing schools face in hiring qualified faculty.
WORLD: Healing memories that hurt
Sung Joon Jang, Ph.D., research professor of criminology at Baylor’s Institute for Studies of Religion, led a 2021 study of the outcomes of a volunteer-run trauma-healing prison ministry called “Healing the Wounded Heart.” The results showed the course “significantly reduced PTSD, trauma-related grief, and negative emotions” among participants. Jang and his co-authors argued effective trauma interventions are “essential” to reduce recidivism.

Coffman, Ph.D., professor of history at Baylor, joins the Finding Genius Podcast to discuss new discoveries about Christianity's influence on the nation's cultural, social, and political development as outlined in her book, Turning Points in American Church History: How Pivotal Events Shaped a Nation and a Faith, which outlines the evolution of American Christianity from the colonial period to the present.

Thomas Hibbs, Ph.D., The J. Newton Rayzor Sr. Professor of Philosophy and Dean Emeritus of the Honors College at Baylor, writes about the human need for good stories in the face of anguish, loss and mortality. “What we most need in the face of death is friends, what Aristotle called other selves, who can be present to, with, and for us, who can share in our grief without anxiously trying to fix everything.”

KXXV-TV (ABC/Waco): Baylor University partners with Robinson ISD for paid educational internship
Baylor University is partnering with Robinson ISD to have paid teacher residents for the upcoming school year. The yearlong internship, paid through a TEA strategic staffing grant, allows for Baylor students to earn course credit while being a full-time employee in Robinson ISD.
