Important I-35 Update: Full Mainlane, Frontage Road Closures May 28-June 1 for Pedestrian Bridge Removal

WACO, Texas (May 24, 2019) – Construction crews will permanently close the I-35 pedestrian bridge at 8th Street on Tuesday, May 28, with removal scheduled to begin that night in anticipation of the reconstruction of I-35 mainlanes. To keep crews and the traveling public safe, this will include overnight FULL southbound and northbound frontage road and mainlane closures throughout the week.

Pedestrians should use the existing crosswalks at 4th/5th Streets. The related diagram included shows mainlane routes only but is helpful to plan alternate routes to, from and around campus next week. Please note that the diagram shows mainlane routes only.

6 p.m. – 6 a.m.: ALL northbound frontage road lanes closed from 14th St. to 5th St.
• Side streets connecting to the frontage road in this area will be closed at the intersection.

Wednesday, May 29, 2019

7 p.m. – 6 a.m.: FULL northbound mainlane closure from 10th St. to 5th St.
• Mainlane traffic exits at 8th St. (Exit 334B) and re-enters at 4th/5th Streets.
• 4th/5th Streets closed to all through traffic.

Thursday, May 30, 2019

7 p.m. – 6 a.m.: FULL southbound mainlane closure from MLK Jr. Blvd. to 18th St.
• Mainlane traffic exits University Parks Dr. (Exit 335B) and re-enters at 18th St.
• Southbound frontage road at MLK Jr. Blvd. will be closed to through traffic, drivers will be directed to east or westbound MLK Jr. Blvd.
• S. University Parks Dr., 4th/5th Streets, 17th/18th Streets closed to all through traffic.

Saturday, June 1, 2019

6 p.m. – 10 a.m.: ALL southbound frontage road lanes closed from 6th St. to 10th St.
• Side streets connecting to the frontage road in this area will be closed at the intersection.
