Important I-35 construction information from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)

WACO, Texas (Dec. 13, 2019) – Crews will be lifting and placing beams under the Forrest Street bridge in preparation for constructing the turnaround lanes. To perform this work safely, a full closure of the northbound I-35 mainlanes at Forrest Street, as well as intermittent closures to the southbound I-35 mainlanes, will take place overnight on Monday, Dec. 16. Northbound I-35 mainlane traffic will be directed to use Exit 335C for MLK Jr Boulevard and can re-enter north of BUS 77.

Additionally, crews plan to close 5th Street at the southbound I-35 frontage road Sunday, Dec. 15. This will be a continuous closure and is anticipated to be in place for approximately four days. During this time, traffic on 5th Street will need to use Clay Avenue to 7th Street to access the southbound frontage road.

As a reminder, crews plan to close University Parks Drive at the southbound I-35 frontage road and under I-35 tonight, Friday, Dec. 13. This will be a continuous closure and is anticipated to be in place for one week. To cross under I-35, eastbound traffic on University Parks Drive will need to use Clay Avenue to 7th Street to access the southbound frontage road and turnaround lanes at 17th and 18th Streets. Westbound traffic on University Parks Drive will need to use Dutton Avenue to 4th Street or MLK Boulevard.

Overnight work hours are Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.; Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m.; and Sunday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. All schedules are dependent on weather and field conditions.
